Your illustration in particular brings to mind Maslow's Hierarchy, each lower level a necessary condition for the next level of needs, from bottom to top: physiological, safety, love & belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Perhaps a worthy paradigm to consider? BTW I hold that there's another layer at the top: Self Transcendence: realizing that what gives life meaning goes beyond the Self and instead centers on service to other, to the world—something I personally would like to optimize for.
