This resonates & encapsulates a significant period in life - one where "control" was never possible (is it ever?), simply because of the sheer randomness & uncertainty of the "bad" happening. With that as daily bread, what then became/becomes the "way to deal"?
An underlying faith & belief that no matter what, there would always be a way - be it a "way-out", a "way-forward", a "way-through", or any of the "other ways" that each situation would offer 😊
Yes - the "epistemic humility" in the "acceptance" of outcomes & the meaningful narratives we make, continue to provide that peace of mind of the "now" of my 7th decade...

Hi John - I'm glad to hear it resonates. I like the framing of the different "ways" you described. It made me think of the phrase "the show must go on". On the grand stage of life, that is certainly the case. Time stops for no one, so learning to through it gracefully is the greatest lesson of all.
